Here’s an interview I put together for the W1S1 blogchain. It’s between my MC in my wip and her Shrink (which she doesn’t really visit in the manuscript but I’ve stuck to the story facts using characters from my wip.) I adapted the questions from here: http://absolutewrite.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6793936&postcount=251; mostly because I enjoyed the challenge.

“I’m a Werewolf entering a tavern in a back-in-the-olden-days type reenactment village. The rest of the class was already inside so I walk up to the decorative half sized wooden doors and rush through them just a little too quickly. They both bang loudly off the walls then swing back to whack into me. Thirty odd students, a whole lot more random tourists and my teacher all look directly at me. I wince and groan, trying to act like I was hurt as I take the nearest seat. The room slowly goes back to its normal volume and people turn their attention back to each other. A few, Samantha included, are laughing at me.
“My teacher is not. The scent of his pack burns constantly at my nostrils. The turn of his lip and white of his teeth screams of his hatred of me. My existence here is a balancing act. Fit in or get out. Sometimes fitting in lets me live in an area for a few weeks or months but not many packs put up with strays for much longer than that. My grand entrance might be leading up to my grand exit.
“Somewhere, on the second story, a lady screams. The sounds of a fight echo down into the tavern then a cowboy rolls down the steps. He collects himself at the base of the stair case, dusting off his jacket, straightening his hat and tilting it forwards a little as he apologizes to one of the ladies dressed like a whore.
“As if my dream couldn’t get any weirder the cowboy is Cian and he swaggers through the tavern like nothing, not even the ten guys chasing him down the stairs, is going to hurt him. He tilts his hat at me and I just know he’s going to transform into something the minute he gets outside. That’s his escape plan, that’s how he’s going to get out of this before any of the gun toting men get their hands on him. I swivel in my seat, desperate and excited.
That’s when I wake up.”
“This Animal, that he would have turned into, that would be a representation of his inner nature?”
“Oh yes,” I lie. I mean a literal animal, that’s what witches do (apparently) but I can’t explain that to a mortal psychologist.
“Cian is your boss?”
“Yes,” and housemate, and prison guard.
“So far we’ve talked about your boss, his brother Liam and an unrelated fellow called Riley. Let’s do an exercise, if your boss, Liam and Riley all drank a potion to find their true loves who do you think they would fall in love with?”
Heat flushes in my cheeks. How has this turned from discussing my dreams to love interests?
But I’m paying good money to humor him so let’s see. “Well Liam’s already in a committed relationship. He’s attached at the hip to Sheana.” Oops, I probably chose the wrong comparison there. What I meant was he’d rather take his own life then think romantically about someone else. “Um, Riley.” I have to think for a moment, which has my heart thumping as the Shrink looks at me with one eyebrow raised over my last comment and I try to work out what I actually know about Riley. Werewolf, my age, not infected by the virus, under the control of his dad who is infected and wants to capture me, not much. “My money’s on Ravon. She’s his type. Dark, mysterious, dangerous, competitive, mood swings.” At least that’s the impression I get from Riley.
I sit, waiting for my next question. Which I’m guessing he’ll ask when he has stopped scribbling down notes.
“I see,” he mutters. “Do you have any siblings Amaranth?”
Damn, I missed half the last question. Who would Cian fall in love with if he had no choice but to fall for someone? Too late now, and I hope the Shrink doesn’t read anything into that.
“Yes, an older brother. Tolan.”
“Are you and your brother close?”
I nod, because what the Shrink means is different to the truth. The truth is we were close before Riley’s pack ripped him from me and imprisoned him in an attempt to get their hands on me. But that’s not really what the Shrink is asking.
“Alright. Are you and Cian close?”
I screw my nose up at him. He’s asking this because I forgot to pick a love interest for Cian in the love potion question.
“Let me put it this way. If Cian was to have a slumber party and only invite one person who would it be?”
“Me,” I say it slowly. The reason he would invite me is because he never lets me out of his sight unless someone else is watching me. Besides the idea of Cian having a slumber party is distracting enough that I can’t think of any better answer that would still be the truth.
“Ok then, do you have another dream you wanted to share?”
“Yes, in it we’re all sitting around mums big old mahogany table eating dinner. There’s a perfectly cooked roast chicken and a huge assortment of side dishes but the center of the table is bare.”
“Who’s at the table with you?”
“Riley, Cian, Liam, Me and Tolan.”
“Why is the center piece important?”
“Because mum cut roses from our garden each week. We always had a vase filled with fresh roses sitting on that table. It should be there.”
“And how does the evening go?”
“Not well. Tolan gets into a fight with Cian, Liam and Riley attack each other. The food goes everywhere and I walk out of the room.”
“Why do they fight?”
“Because Tolan thinks Cian is controlling me and Riley was born to kill witches.” Oops, I let that slip out.
“Who’s the witch in your dream?”
“Cian and Liam are.” I relax, saved by the ‘in your dream’ assumption.
“And Riley wants to kill them?”
I nod.
“Who would win do you think?”
I shrug. I don’t know. I have never seen any of them fight. Not really. I have no idea what animals either Cian or Liam can become and that could make a huge difference to the outcome.
“I think Liam and Cian together would beat Riley. Two against one.”
“How would Cian and Riley react if you were to pass away suddenly?”
Really? What sort of a question is that?
“Um, Cian would probably be glad and Riley would be disappointed I guess.” Disappointed because his dad has gone to a lot of trouble to get his hands on me. I have no idea why or what for but if he wants me dead he wants to do it himself.
“Let me try putting that a different way. If you were to wake up in bed next to one of them which would you rather?”
“Cian definitely.” Because waking up next to Riley would be like sleeping with the enemy, given the location of Riley’s bed and all.
“Interesting. Now we’ve discussed five individuals in our session. You, Tolan, Cian, Liam and Riley. I want you to answer for each person, including yourself, what is the one thing each individual wants?”
“How do I know?”
“Humor me.”
I’ll humor him but I’m never coming to another session, ever.
“Let’s see. Another life, dad back, his dad’s acceptance, to be king of the world and me – respectively.”
“Well I think I see your problem.”
“Really?” I think I’m just stupid for hiring this guy.
“You need to choose which guy you’re going to follow and stick to it. You’re brother, your boss or one of your love interests – ”
That’s it, I’m out of here. I should have known that a mortal Shrink couldn’t help me, I’ve confused him and he’s definitely confused me.
